Hello folks,
Found this wonderful site this year after some fifteen years of hiking in the Superstition Wilderness area. My wife and I are Ohio natives and currently our hiking is limited a few weeks in the spring when we are able to get away from our business at home. None the less, we have greatly enjoyed the area, and have become pretty familiar with the areas we can reach from the trailheads we are able to access. Two day backpack trips of are our favorite. The better half was nursing a recently broken arm this year, so we stayed on shorter hikes including the Cave Trail, Flatiron, and Picacho (Hunter) Trail. We found the info here very useful on every one of them.
We would love to hike the trails from some of the more remote trailheads, but have so far been turned back by the need for 4WD or high clearance vehicles to get there. We have a car in Phoenix, it's not suitable for that type of use. The sad part is we have a Jeep CJ in the family here in Ohio, but try as I may, I can not fit it into a carry on, and America West won't check a Jeep. Rental agencies we have found seem to have only the Deluxe SUVs available. Along with the huge rental price, they have things like a Ford Explorer with leather interior, plush carpet, and a $5000.00 audio system!
I'm hoping that some of the native HAZ users might be able to give us some advice or information on how or where we might find something more suited to getting to the trailheads we can't currently reach
Even if that doesn't work out, it's great to be able to share other folk's experiences here. Thanks to hikearizona.com and everyone that contributes!
