Phone: 602-721-0037 Rating: Moderate
MEET xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, 7:00 am Sharp! Elevation change: 2500 +/-
The only established trail in the wild and spectacular Sierra Estrella Wilderness, the Quartz Peak Trail ascends 2500 feet over three miles to the milk-white tip of Quartz Peak. In this remote and rugged terrain, the quartz-strewn ancient Indian footpath coils around the mountain, passing some old abandoned mines, and ends at an area sacred to the Akimel O'odham. From there the ridgeline can be followed south to Butterfly Peak, a rock pinnacle large enough to be visible from Phoenix. Great views of the Valley and surrounding desert can be had from both of these peaks so bring your camera!
After the hike, we can partake in refreshments and a barbecue, so bring meat to burn and your favorite beverage. Interested? Please contact the hike leader.
