Looking for 1 day hike from PHX in Jan
I'm visiting Phoenix the last week in January. I have about 9 hrs total including drive time for a good hike. The past two years, I did the Black Mesa Loop in the Superstitions, 1st time clockwise, the 2nd time counter-clockwise. Time to move on. Any recommendations? I wouldn't mind seeing a different kind of terrain, but I wouldn't want to increase the time in the car. Thanks.

In response to rpochoda's reply:
Peralta Trail to Freemont saddle is always great and the view of Weaver's Needle is really outstanding, especially if you go out to the overlook (look for the lone pine tree). This trail is pretty crowded on the weekends. I also like Boulder Canyon #103 from Canyon Lake......it takes you down past Indian Paint mine. You can do both of these as out and back.

I'm with Trish, I was going to reccomen the supes again but you said you wanted to do something in different terrain. I'd say for you're driving mile the supes are the best place to go. If you go further down the apache trail or take the 60 out to globe you can get into some of the higher elevation desert and low forest.
