I'd be interested. I love that hike - very fun. And it is best to do it in the winter when it is cooler outside.

Just let me know of a Saturday when you can do it. I'll likely be available in January any Saturday.

Most important advice is to watch out for unthinking people dislodging rocks above you. A few years ago Picacho came within a fraction of an inch of being my final hike.

If it's hot, hike the Hunter trail, which keeps you in the shade for longer.

In December I usually hike the sunset trail, it is warmer and of course lives up to its name. It's a couple of miles further but more gentle. Don't start too early, and do enjoy that sunset.

Planning to be there myself sometime around 22nd.

Picacho Hike

In response to olesma's reply: January the 10th is good for me. The earlier the better. i'm in Tempe; do you want to meet somewhere and ride together or take separate vehicles? If you know of anyone else who'd like to go, i say 'the more the merrier'!

Darn, I can't make the 10th as I am planning to attend another hike but I can tell you that no matter sun or shade if you want a challenge and lots of fun take Hunter trail up then Sunset vista out! You can both drive out and place a shuttle car at the end of Sunset. That's how I did it and I loved it! I am dying to do it again some day!
