9 days in Arizona for the first time
OK, two Canadians with moderate backpacking experience will be visiting Arizona for 9 days starting May 14. We'd like to experience a couple of 2-3 day trips, one being the great Tuscon classic desert hike (Coronado?)....the other a northern (Sedona?) trip. Definitely not looking for crowds, and some water would be nice!

I don't know about the tucson area but if you want a great 2-3 day trip on the rim check out the hellsgate trip (the one that goes to the confluence of tonto and haigler creeks. It will only take a day to get in and a day to get out, but if you are at all fishermen you could easily spend a day (or more) fishing in the area.

Another choice to consider for a "northern" AZ backpack would be the Cabin Loop trail north of Payson on the Mogollan Rim. There are three trails that make up this loop and all are listed here on HAZ (Fred Haught #28, U-Bar and Barbershop)
Keep in mind that you'll be at 7000+ elevation and from my personal experience, it can get pretty chilly at night even in May!!!!

pushing heat envelope
We have no specific suggestions for a hike. However, we noted that you wish to have a 2-3 day hike in the Tucson area, preferably with water.
Um...well...this reply to your message is an urging for you to check historical climate records, track current weather patterns and be prudent.
Mid-May there can be blissful. However mid-May there can also be brutal.
The wise and prudent hiker/backpacker is ALWAYS mindful of how conditions are unfolding and evolving.
Wise and prudent hikers and backpackers will readily CHANGE their plans should some factoid/event appear that changes the fundamental integrity of their planned excursion.
While we have no specific suggestions as to any given 2-3 backpack, we do have this advice: Have Plan B! (And maybe "C," too.)
