Kanab BLM

Post by big_load »

I noticed the sad web page in Randal Schulhauser's slot canyon pictures and was disappointed to read of his difficulty in getting through to BLM.

Have others experienced this? Is it a longstanding problem? Are they understaffed because everybody is out recovering folks who didn't bring enough water? I've noticed other agencies are hard to reach, but I usually get through eventually. I won't give up until about 15 failures, but I'm a glutton for punishment.

In response to big_load's reply:

Saw bureaucracy at it's best when I was there for my first visit. Felt sorry for the world travelers (met people from Germany and France) that were denied access, even though there were less than 20 people wanting to visit the area that day!

Will give it another chance this fall when we plan a return visit in late September, early October. Don't know if the web site will be running by then, but may try your persistence on the phone 15+ times!

And they wonder why--

Trips to Coyote Buttes and the Wave--4
permits--0 (two times were before present system

Trips down lower Paria --1
permit--0
(I'll take upper Paria--no permits or people)

Trips in Bucskin Gulch--2
Permits-- paid the day hiking freight--overnighted once.

I await the BLM citation any time now------
and for me--it is not about the money!
