The Sierra Club, Grand Canyon Trust and Grand Canyon National Park Foundation are conducting important research and resource protection projects in and around the canyon in the coming months and they need your help.
Volunteer opportunities include an invasive plant removal and habitat restoration project at Lees Ferry, Arizona, scheduled for the end of September. This fall, the Grand Canyon National Park Foundation begins its volunteer backpacking trips into the Canyon working specifically on the eradication of invasive species in the inner canyon. Listed below are many other projects, differing in length, intensity and location, that will help preserve and restore the canyon. If you are interested in a specific project, contact the Club, Foundation or the Trust for more detailed project descriptions.
It is important to build a strong relationship between the backcountry users of the Canyon, including hikers, backpackers and river runners, and conservation organizations so that your input and ideas can help tha GCNP and others better understand the current issues within the Canyon and work more effectively to protect the Canyon and the Colorado River.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Maria Clementi, Grand Canyon Trust (928) 774-7488 gcvolunteers@yahoo.com
