In response to matt gilbert's reply:

bro...you're soooo wrong. Yes, people who have an addictive personality whether it being sex or drugs or hiking will perhaps want to experiment further with their selected vice. But to make a broad statement like "pot is a gateway drug" - is just not correct or has ever been proven. Yes the folks at "Drug Free America" (the biggest hoax - funded by Corporate America and the drug companies) would like you to think it is.

Caffine is far worse a "gateway" drug then herb will ever be! Think about that over your next java.

Water is Wet

Post by AZHikr4444 »

Oh man Matt I just about had a heart attack.

I love those ads and billboards that admonish, "75% (or 90% or whatever) of all people experiment with marijuana before the age of 17". Same for smoking and drinking. Fact is, the teenage years are when people experiment! Thats like saying "75% of all sex addicts had sex before the age of 17". Jeezzz...so did (mostly) everyone else.

Its junk science intended to incite irrational fear.

Better than that is a couple of Percocets with an Absolut martini (shaken, not stirred). Mike, you have very good taste in Scotch!!!

Mixing prescription drugs with alcohol is dangerous and can be fatal, but hey if that is your bag, go for it. But rest assured that your demise will be used to demonize drugs for another fifty years, so let's be careful out there. Natural psychotropics have a long and varied history, they have found traces of cocaine in egyptian mummies, does that mean they had a cartel back then? Just curious. Hoping for an intelligent approach to any public controversy is like spitting into the wind, not worth it. Politicians are only good for one thing, getting elected, after that they are in over their head. Want to know what I really think?

naww..we're just funnin' (well, 'cept for maybe Trish- she is a wild one! hee...heee. ). Really, I think all of us love sunrises over the Supes and sunsets among the red rocks too much to pollute ourselves with such concoctions.

I don't think, however, that an intelligent discourse on public controversy is too much to hope for, IF people approach them with an open mind, at least an attempt at understanding all sides, and a healthy dose of humour. What was it Ghandi said? - something about accepting argument- it will only do one of two things- change my mind, or strengthen my convictions.

The history of MJ is a fascinating one- its medical and recreational use predates the birth of Christ; I believe it is even mentioned in the bible in a recipe for an anointing oil. It spans many cultures from ancient China to the Scythians, from ancient Greece to the British colonies to the jazz dens of New Orleans in the early 20th century to the Mexican migrant workers who gave it it's name. (As you can see, I'm a history buff).

I do however agree with you one hundred and fifty percent wholeheartedly about politicians, Ghoster. As sugar coated as your observation was (hee..c'mon tell us what you REALLy think! : rambo : )

Great idea! As a comedian on TV said today---legalize pot immediately but make it available ONLY at DMV offices. The use would rapidly diminish.

Ghoster,

I was only kidding about the Percs and martinis. I work in the medical field so I'm fully aware of the dangers of mixing.

I was in See Canyon last October and saw no signs of Cannabis but if anyone wants to plan a trip (no pun intended!) I'm game for the fall

BTW for those unaware "420" refers to smokin the weed.

Have you every noticed that people who smoke the weed like to say "dude" and "bro" ?

Seriously, I have noticed that "chronic smokers" are really in denial about the effect that it has. I know quite a few folks who spark up the Bong and they are waaaay more likely to have tried other drugs than my friends who have not done anything.

But, smokin weed is like being in a bad relationship. The problems can seem obvious to everyone else, but not the person involved.

I don't think pete is saying that everyone who imbibes in the weed necessarily has a problem, but let's face it (advocates or not) that some people do have problems with it. If that's all you do all day, if it affects your personal relationships, or your job, or it exerts a high degree of control over what you do or where you go then it is a problem. Anything can amount to a problem in excess. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic, but certainly there are people who abuse it.

In response to matt gilbert's reply: Matt, I agree. There are some that might have a consumption problem. But again, you can say that about any vice - as stated before in an earlier thread. I guess that old saying - "moderation is a good thing"

btw...I was just awaken @ 3am by a skunk in my garage! Just took forever to get him out. And boy does it smell! :( Tis the season for skunk migration in Flag!

I am not making generalizations. I dont even care if people smoke or if they legalize it or whatever.
I know people that smoke and I am making statements based on my observations. I think I can say that my friends that smoke, smoke weed alot. Not many are occasional users. They are generally all very nice people....they eat alot of doritos and stare off into space alot, but otherwise very nice.

Also reread a little of what I said without being defensive. I was making some jokes and puns along the way....though slight.

Matt is usually the only one that understands that you should not take me too seriously.

I think anyone that has had any experience with Cannabis Hemp or know people who smoke would agree that abusing Cannabis Hemp can cause problems, just as the abuse of any drug- alcohol, cigarettes, prescriptions, even antibiotics- can cause problems. What irks advocates of Cannabis Hemp reform, such as myself, is that the problems associated with irresponsible use are no worse than the problems associated with other legal substances, and most of the time, are significantly less! So why is it illegal!?!

This is how many documented deaths that have occurred EVER due to even the abuse of Cannabis Hemp (despite the corporate sponsored media propaganda insinuating the contrary):

0

Compare that to deaths associated with accidental overdose or reaction to prescription drugs (even more people die every year from ASPIRIN, than smoking MJ), not to mention the obvious- cigarettes and alcohol. So the question is: WHY IS CANNABIS HEMP ILLEGAL?

I agree with Pete- a lot of chronic smokers of the chronic are in denial about the effects that it has, but most of AMERICA is in denial about the huge detrimental effects that other legal and perfectly acceptable substances have. And worse, most people have been fed 75 years of misinformation, and don't know just how much we could ALL benefit from legalizing such a simple thing as a plant.
