Humphrey's Peak hike Saturday 9/17

Post by hikeaz »

HUMPHREY'S PEAK - Flagstaff
Saturday, Sept 17

Leader: Kurt Sedler ( kurt@ibmmonitors.com ) Length: 9 miles R/T

Phone: 602-339-8780 Rating: Difficult

MEET at the Park & Ride east of Denny's at I-17 and Bell Road, 6:30 AM sharp
Elevation gain 3800'

At 12,633', Humphrey's Peak is the highest summit in Arizona. The first couple of miles are heavily populated with fir, spruce & aspen. The aspen disappear as we climb and are replaced by bristle cone pine. The summit is above timberline with fabulous views in every direction. It is very likely to be cold & windy at the top so bring a jacket, gloves & a hat. Also bring a lunch, plenty of water and wear proper footwear. This is a challenging hike due to the elevation change so please be prepared!

Hey Kurt,

I think I may join in on this one. I have a friend that wants to hike it as well. Are you joining in on this one?

Nice Catch Matt, don't a feal a little dumb for not seeing that. To my defense I looked on the http://www.Friendshiking.com site and it list someone else as the leader for the Humphrey's trip.

As is always the case, anyone & everyone is welcome. We'd love to have you, Tim - your friend as well.

FYI re. the disparity between the site & what is posted here...-
I am "subbing" as the T.L. - the original was called out of town for a family emergency.

A few of us plan to car-camp on Saturday night, so if that is something you'd like to do, please come prepared for that, as well.

Well I would love to stay for the car camp but need to get back to town. Have way too many trips planned in the coming weeks to miss a chance to sleep in my own bed.

I think we are just going to drive up there and hike it. So I'm sure we will see you guys on the on the trail. I'm hoping to leave at 7:00am but you never know how that is going to go.
