Lurker here with my first post!
I am planning to head out this weekend for my first backpack into the Superstitions. As I will be hiking with my two cattledogs, water is a big concern. Over the holidays on a day hike, I found plenty of water at the Second Water Spring (intersection of Second Water and Boulder Canyon trails). Does anyone have any other recent observations of water at the various springs within the Sups? This info will help me plot my weekend route... Many thanks!
Kathleen

How sad. They were wall-to-wall between Apache Junction and Miami the last time I was out there on a weekend. Ten years ago I wouldn't have seen more than one or two on the same trip.Nighthiker wrote:I was able to observe vehicles driving down frome RogersTrough last night after dark, I was able to oserve their headlights from the Gold Canyon area.

Quads..arggghhh
In response to Sredfield's reply:
Hey Shawn- I assume you were approaching Reavis from the south at Rogers, right? Or were the quads overrunning the north road in from 88? Man I hope not. I have an intense dislike for those blasted things, but as long as they are on the FS roads thats a lot better than on the actual jeep road going in, or on the trail (like on the Rim- Houston Brothers). I've never seen a quad on the north FR, although I did see one weird lookin' dune buggy thing. Maybe I did see them and just mentally blocked them out.
Sorry for the negative tone- but I those things really anger me (especially when they are barrelassing over a hill at full speed and the guy driving has a 3 yr old kid on his lap...arghhhh). I just hope they are not taking over the north roads like they did the south.

I saw them at the south end. I don't want to get started, but I share your disgust for the dang things. On the roads I guess they are legal and allowed, but when they start off across the unroaded area, they destroy everything. And the risks the drivers take with their kids is criminal. I'd like to see CPS or some other law enforcement presence out and about some weekend, bet that would rile up the natives.

As a native (one often riled up at that) I would love to see more restrictions on those quads. Last time I was out at rogers trough on the way back down the road I almost collided head on with a couple twelve year olds racing eachother. They were side by side comming around a curve. I was in my jeep doing about 15-20, and I think they were probably going faster than I was. I locked up my tires, I don't think they even slowed down. I actually thought about turning around and throttling them for a little while, then I remembered that these kids probably had drunk fathers with fire-arms shooting up cacti further down the road and thought better of it...
