your so lucky

Post by 0hurricanes »

I just picked up Arizona Highways "Urban Trails, Easy Paths & Overnight Treks". I must say anyone that lives in Arizona is so lucky! I say that because we here in the hurricane state (used to be the Sunshine State!) don't have the diversity you seem to have there. This book gives me a starting point at least. My first hike will be Thumb Butte in Prescott. This book is excellent for a beginning hiker, not knowing whats in the state itself. See you all in June! :D

Jeff,

I feel your pain as I lived in Orlando for 3 years. Humidity, Hurricanes and Swamps.....OH MY  Arizona is a beautiful, diverse landscape and I hope you have a terrific trip out this way in June.

Yes we have the ocean, but I haven't been to the beach in 5-6 years. It's a nightmare to try and find a parking spot and it isn't worth the hassel. Plus for the last year we have had a red tide bloom, yuk, very smelly.

Thanks Trish, but a friendly reminder, it won't be a trip, we are moving out there for good as far as i'm concerned! Orlando is now a logistical nightmare. We just went up there in early December and the road const. is incredible. It looks like Rte 4 and 192 will be nothing but black top soon. Then I assume they will start const. on the upper highway to by pass the lower one they just finished! Traffic is horrendes and I would rather stay away. And if Disney and the other parks have their way (and they will) there won't be any swamp left.

I miss St Augistine, and the ocean. Imagine if during the the war with Mexico we would have claimed a chunk of coastline along the sea of cortez. AZ would be as expensive amd crowded as California

Jeff,

Very cool that you are moving here....before you know it 10 years will have passed and you will wonder what possibly could be east of the Rockies anyway

I do have to admit that the Gulf Shore of Florida is pretty nice from the Sarasota area to Naples especially Sanibel & Captiva Islands. The panhandle too with Fort Walton Beach, Pensacola.......very pretty beaches. The humidity is just so oppressive~~~~

July/August is like opening an oven door here in AZ. Living in Florida is like living in a sauna year round.

Trish, I already am thinking that there is nothing east of the Rockies! And now for the final kick in the butt, we were put on notice wednesday that we are losing our insurance in July! Gee, a month after hurricane season starts! They are dropping everyone in FL and leaving because of the hurricane's. Hopefully I will be transfered out there by then!
