Retredding a Gore-tex boot?

Post by jaybird »

Can you retred a Gore-tex boot or will the boot lose it's waterproof seal?

Is there someone in the Phoenix area that does work like this?

You probably mean "resole" and yes, you can if it is a Vibram sole or similar. Some boots, like a fair number of Montrails for instance, are built like tennis shoes, and are not capable of being resoled. Usually, the fabric of the boot is irrelevant to the resoleing process.

There are a fair amount of cobblers in the Phx area. I've never resoled boots before, but I would start with Perez Shoe Repair - 15211 N. Cave Creek Rd. 602-992-2365. They resoled rock climbing shoes for me and they also repair camping gear (tents and stuff) so they would be a good place to start your search.

Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, some of us don't live near Phoenix, and might want this info: I got my all-leather, goretex-lined boots, Vasque Newbriers, resoled by sending them away to: http://www.davepagecobbler.com The work he does is top notch. He is located in Seattle area. The neat thing is that the new soles are better than the old ones in that they come up a little higher around the sides. It cost a little less than $100 a year or so ago, including shipping. To replace the boots would be over $200, and I am so hard to fit, and these boots fit me and were broken in, so I decided it was worth it.

He also resoles birkies, Tevas, running shoes, rock shoes, etc. etc.
