Hey all,
My sister is unexpectedly going to Nogales for the weekend (July 22-23). I'm going to drive down from Flagstaff to meet up with her. Are there any potential hikes in the area this time of year? Sycamore Canyon sounds good (water sounds great!) but was still not recommended in the summer. We would be interested in hikes from 3-8 miles. Canyoneering with short rappels are ok too - my sis has never rappelled before, but as long as they aren't too long, she'd be ok.
Thanks! Any other tips for hanging out in Nogales (she's considering moving there for a super cool job) would be appreciated. Restaurants, things to see and do, etc.

Nogales!!!
Very hot much of year,
But I am an avid herpetologist,it has a very good selection of snakes,{rattlers mostly, use caution}.
The area is a mix of mining junk and beauty,a paradox.
Eating at DAGOjoes is a must, also the old town area.

Sycamore Canyon has a few pools but I agree, really hot. Atascosa Summit would be good for an early (real early) am hike or a later hike and stay overnight near the firelookout. Incredible views, would have to watch the storm track tho.
The nearest sky islands are Mt Wrightson; also you could go the back way by the border to the Huachucas. A little cooler hiking once you are on top. Take precautions in the areas.
