Looking for guidance for somone who hasn't hiked in a while
I hiked a LOT pre-kids. I miss it, and I'm starting to get back into it. I live in Mesa. I am not real crazy about deseert hiking. an anyone recommend hikes that will push me but not kill me as I get started again?

Roger,
Lots of really nice trails in the Payson/Pine/Strawberry area and further up on the Mogollon Rim and that's only 1-2 hours from the East Valley. If you are looking for something with a little bit of elevation gain (but nothing too taxing) check out Horton Creek or See Canyon, both decent hikes and about 6-8 miles RT. There are also a few nice hikes off the Pine TH. If you click on "regions" and then select Payson, you'll get a better idea of the trail length and elevation gain.

If you're looking for company then give a shout here on HAZ. Lots of fine folks here looking for a hike!
