I was thinking of a nice mellow walk through the Red Rocks this weekend & thought i'd hike some of west fork, site of many a backpack trip fir me & my friends back in the 70's.i seem to remember the established trail going back about about 2-3 miles with many a creek crossing till the "trail" kinda petered out & you had to walk through the creek.then there was this part a few miles past that where you literally had to hug rock to get through a narrows...memories.....
wondering if anybody out there has hiked west fork in the last few weeks.we've had quite a bit of rain & i imagine the water level might be kinda high.a nice mellow 3-4 hour round trip through the canyon is what we're looking for

Take a look at AZ-Outdoorsman's pictures from 09-09-06 on the hike description page under the photologs for an idea of the water. I hiked it on 09-03-06 and it was very nice, ankle deep water until about 3 miles where I hit waist deep water. Apples on the trees but the leaves weren't changing yet.
I posted a GPS track of the hike. It's on the right hand side of the hike description page in the mapping section. You can look at it interactively by topo or aerial photo.
Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.
