Favorite Electrolyte replacement
Just read over some of the comments on hiking in the heat. I've tried several electrolyte replacement drinks and was wondering what others have used with success. (I go with Gookinaid -- Hydrolyte).

Re: Favorite Electrolyte replacement
In response to Canyonram's reply: I've tried them all and I go with Accelerade. It combines carbs and protein (whey protein concentrate). You can check it out at Accelerade.com. Landis Cyclery was the only place that I could find it but now REI carries it.
I end a strenuous hike with Endurox R4 for muscle recovery.
I also like the Mojo Bars from the ClifBar people.

Anybody can make a hike harder. The real skill comes in making the hike easier.

I just use powdered Gatorade because that is what I can buy locally without having to go to the city. I like Clif Shots, but lately have noticed they are very hard to find. (I think they have glucose + potassium--the potassium, in my very limited knowledge, I think is an electrolyte.) Anyone know why I can't find them anywhere? Looked all over Flagstaff, (a guy at Absolute Bikes said "Yuck! Why would you want those?" Great customer service, eh? Impuning my taste! And to think I spent over 2 grand on a bike there!) Also looked at Trader Joe's in NW Tucson. I could get a case online, I did see that, but I just wanted to pick up a few pkgs. like I always have, and suddenly they are no longer popular.

Lots of Gatorade fans. I did a cost break-down between buying the powdered Gatorade and mix it yourself vs. purchasing the liquid Gatorade. About 1/4th the cost to go with the powder and then mix.
On long hikes, I will portion out the expect number of servings of powder and mix on the trail with water (either Gookinaid or Gatorade).

and about 1/10 of the weight. I usually buy the huge powder jug of gatoraid and then throw individual servings in mini-ziplocks. Most places I go I can get water along the way, so just make the gatoraid then. If theres no water then I usually bring a liter or two along with some water depending on the hike.
