2006 Ballot Measures 105 & 106

Post by bryanmertz »

There are a couple ballot measures on the upcomming 11/7 general election that could impact Trust Land.

I wanted to get some input from fellow Arizona residents and outdoor enthusiats on the pro's/ con's of these measures. I'm not looking to create a debate on the issue, but would appreciate opinions on how these measures could have an impact for our state land in the future.

The Secretary of State site has some good information on both of these:

Proposition 105
Proposition 106

All of your input is welcome.

Thanks,

In response to bryanmertz's reply:
PROP 106
Prop 106 is a citizen initiative to amend the AZ Constitution regarding State Trust Lands. Many people worked for several years drafting & refining this Amendment.

Look at the people and organizations in favor of Prop 106. The owner of Summit Hut worked hard to get this measure on the ballot and has been pushing for this measure - talk with Dave Baker if you want to see passion for this Prop.

PROP 105
When the Developers and Ranchers saw that Prop 106 would be on the ballot, they rushed to the Legislature and got Proposition 105 on the ballot through a Concurrent Resolution to confuse the issue. Prop 105 has a lot of money from Developers and Ranchers to air TV & radio ads. Don't be misled or deceived. Prop 105 was rushed onto the ballot and is ill-conceived & bad for the future of Arizona. Look at the sweetheart deals for Ranchers in Prop 105.

MY VIEW
I am both a capitalist and a conservationist, in my view Prop 106 is a good balance for the future. When you have a limited resource and a monopoly, special situations exist.

We had the wisdom and foresight to set up the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, which we all now enjoy - rich & poor alike. We now need the wisdom and foresight to preserve State Trust Lands. I am a 4th generation Arizonan, this is very close to my heart & soul. I welcome newcomers and I want AZ to grow & develop, but I also want to preserve pieces of what makes AZ special. Prop 106 is the answer.
