I thought I was in a hurry today. Not!

Post by BoyNhisDog »

I was busy. The window of opportunity was open. After six mapping sites across the state I had to refuel. The fuel truck was empty and was being filled.

I had hundreds of more miles, another mapping site, an office visit and an errand on the way home. I was in a hurry.

I looked out across the desert and it did not look particulary interesting but somehow I was drawn into it. Down a low ravine and there it was. A beautiful little desert stream. All of a sudden I wasn't in a hurry anymore. I only had ten minutes here but somehow those other things were not as important anymore.

I took this feeling with me.

Solitude in the desert, or not in a hurry

Post by GTG_AZH »

I love it when I can just stop hiking for a moment and soak in all the environment around me.
It's a point where I reach a kind of zen-light.
Trail location makes no difference.
Being able to take a picture of it all is the greatest.
Then I have to move around to try and get my shadow out of the picture.

Whoa that's kind of deep there I guess.
Not like what you reached there today though.

BoyNhisDog thanks for sharing the moment and the photo, again you have brought us into your hiking experience through our minds and our monitors.

'I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately....'

I think we all hike for more than the physical benefit and the view.

That is deep. I love it. I really wanted to follow that stream to it's source. I kept thinking of that Robert Frost line: 'The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.'

Cakewalk, after seeing the beautiful pic on your webpage, I think you are going to take things up a notch when you get your 'new' digital camera.

I can't wait to see the results. Then when I can't get 'out' I can live vicariously through your photos.
