Due to the success of our recent trip, and the good time had by all, I am attempting to organize another outing. This time, however, it will be much easier, lazier, and most likely include grilled steaks, asparagus, and baked 'taters.
Tony Cabin sits in an inviting meadow surrounded by shade trees in the seldom travelled eastern Superstitions. It was once an area inhabited by the Tony family where they grew produce-chased chickens-and children- and if Id had to guess, had a really good time doing so.
Its an excellent chance to see a part of AZ history before more damage occurs, as the cabin is in Ill repair from what I hear. Inside the cabin you will likely find supplies such as food and the occasional bottle 'o hootch if youre lucky! There are great camping spots along the peaceful creek setting, a reliable spring nearby, and rare wildlife has been spotted here, including the wily and elusive coatimundi, several species of bats, and some interesting nightime sounds that may be why they call this place "haunted". It is a must-do hike, in my top 5 for sure. Come join us!
Dang Mike! I just told a friend that I had no plans for that weekend! Looks like I lied! I will run this by my girlfriend later; I'm sure she'll want to go too. We've been trying to backpack a lot lately to get ready for our trip to Paria in April.
What route are you going to take? I need to hike the 6 mile straight-shot from the Forest road to the cabin. Then I will have completed that trail!

I'll check my schedule to see if i can make this one

almost forgot, there is a nice cave about 75' deep in the side of canyon- inside is a narrow passage that leads to a deep "master bedroom". The cave is not well known, but easy to spot and I found it without too much searching. its real close to camp.
alright, trip is getting closer and weekend weather might be a good change from this heat wave. FYI, we can carpool to the t/h. I like to meet at Gilbert Rd. and the US60- unless you guys live east of there-lemme know if that works. Parking at the trailhead is limited to about 5 cars and my truck seats 5 hikers, lots of room for packs.
I will be coming from the ahwatukee are if anyone is interested in carpooling. I am ready for a lazy hike. Steaks sound good compared to the trusty 'ol MtnHse.
My girlfriend and I are going for sure. She bought some new gear this past weekend and wants to try it out. We will be coming from Queen Creek, so we will meet you there. If we are not at the trailhead when you get there, we will meet you at camp. Should be great weather...I'm looking forward to a lazy trip as well.

In response to Desertroux's reply:
I am interested in carpooling I live at 60 and Mclintock ...I have gas money and will be bringing steaks too and brew...Yeh beer!
Let me know if that works...If you want to investigate who's riding with you call me or look me up at shilohlive.com or on the evil MySpace...shiloh dorsett
I love this canyon! Have a wonderful time~~~There are quite a few downed trees and mucho debris all along the trail as you get deeper in the canyon, especially in the area just before the spring so lots of firewood available. The cabin was pretty cleaned up when we saw it in February.

I'm in... Mike can I jump in on the carpool? I live in Laveen and have a little bit of a drive. No steaks, but I will have beef jerky and possibly some spirits. Although I love the brew, hard to keep cold and why carry all the weight when you can carry a bottle of vodka and powdered tea. If you need anything or need to contact me feel free to pm me or email me at llwalsh2000@yahoo.com.
Looking forward to my fist overnighter and learning what not to pack and what I left out!!
cool, fellas and kittens, looks like a good turnout. If you are not at the arranged carpool site, Carls Jr. at Gilbert rd. a block north of the US 60- I assume you are driving yourself. Ryan (DesertRoux) may have ability to help out with rides,PM him for details. Otherwise to me this looks like a simple plan, throw packs and riders in the trucks and start truckin'.
please try to be at the pickup site around 7am. that gives us time to argue over "shotgun" and grab some Joe for the ride out.
Not to change everyones plans but I have to drop off my wife at the airport at 7am Saturday morning. So I will probably be able to get there around 7:30ish. Sorry to hold everyone up, but I guess it gives the stragglers some extra time.
