see Historic Tony Cabin in Haunted Canyon, 3/24-25

Post by te_wa »

Due to the success of our recent trip, and the good time had by all, I am attempting to organize another outing. This time, however, it will be much easier, lazier, and most likely include grilled steaks, asparagus, and baked 'taters.

Tony Cabin sits in an inviting meadow surrounded by shade trees in the seldom travelled eastern Superstitions. It was once an area inhabited by the Tony family where they grew produce-chased chickens-and children- and if Id had to guess, had a really good time doing so.

Its an excellent chance to see a part of AZ history before more damage occurs, as the cabin is in Ill repair from what I hear. Inside the cabin you will likely find supplies such as food and the occasional bottle 'o hootch if youre lucky! There are great camping spots along the peaceful creek setting, a reliable spring nearby, and rare wildlife has been spotted here, including the wily and elusive coatimundi, several species of bats, and some interesting nightime sounds that may be why they call this place "haunted". It is a must-do hike, in my top 5 for sure. Come join us!

Great trip with a bunch of awesome people. So glad I decided to jump into this overnighter. I'm hooked! Thanks to all and can't wait to crawl around in bat poop again or to listen to the orchestrated snoring.

Heck yeah! Perhaps a Wet Beaver Creek trip will be in order. Complete torture, but fishing is possible for smallies!

In response to mikeinFHAZ's reply: Nice! Actually, Wet Beaver should wait till it's a bit warmer. The water comes out of the ground at the start of the creek and the first 2 pools are near freezing!

If the Rim lakes are cool, maybe we should head up into the Chevelon Canyon area or somewhere along East Clear Creek. Definite potential for trout and smallmouth bass, and possible other wildlife encounters (bears hopefully). Also it would be possible to stay drier in these areas.

I am tied up the next 3 weekends (family, mtn biking NV, Paria)but after that I'll be exploring with a vengeance! I am Hoffmaster after all.
