Questions on gear

Post by Snowman »

First time doing Buckskin Gulch. There are experienced people coming with me, but I thought I'd get y'all's input anyway. We'll be going from Wire Pass to White House over Memorial Day weekend.
-Is there any point bringing a GPS, or are you in the slot most of the way?
-Is it worth bringing a separate pair of shoes for the wet parts so you don't have to hike the rest of the way with wet feet?
-Is there filterable water at a midpoint, or do I need to bring it all with me?

It looks like an awesome hike. Thanks all.

-Is there any point bringing a GPS, or are you in the slot most of the way? No need for a GPS.
-Is it worth bringing a separate pair of shoes for the wet parts so you don't have to hike the rest of the way with wet feet? My vote is no - old trail-runners or tennies work great.
-Is there filterable water at a midpoint, or do I need to bring it all with me? There is filterable water that surfaces in the Buckskin just upstream of the confluence camp.

Thoughts imbedded (bolded) above.

There are quiet a few past Paria/Buckskin gear discussions in the forum here on HAZ, you might want to have a look at those as well.

One note: On occasion, there is a (biting) black fly hatch down there around the end of May, so be prepared in case. It only lasts a few days, but those few days........ : rambo :
