Dec 23 First Water TH to Cholla Tank
I'm going to do this hike from First Water Th along 2nd Water Tr. and then go north on the unofficial trail before it descends into Boulder Canyon. The maps I have says that trail goes out to Cholla Tank, the total mileage looks like 7.5-8 miles, out and back. I'll be leaving probably a little later, 8-9am-ish. I have in-laws from Serbia coming in Sat. nite with 2 nephews, so on Sunday I'll have 4 kids 5 and under at my house and I "want to get away". Anyone interested?

Cooped up with 5 kids, or spending the night in a cholla field...hmmm....which one is better?
J/K, I'm already signed up for another trip that week. We passed within half a mile of there this weekend, it should be pretty nice if you can find a flat spot far enough away from the prickly stuff.

Re: Dec 23 First Water TH to Cholla Tank
This would just be a day hike. I just want to get out of the house for most of the day while they all settle in. It will be the last bit of peace I'll have for a month. I'll probably take a semi-extended lunch somewhere in AJ on the way back.

Yeah, we're still doing that if you're in. I need to contact CannondaleKid also. Ted says he's 50/50 for it, so we should anywhere from 2-4 people so far.

To add a little variety you might consider making this hike a lollipop-loop, taking in Hackberry Spring on the way out or back. It adds about a mile vs. the straight out-and-back, is all.
Merely food-for-thought.

Re: Dec 23 First Water TH to Cholla Tank
I'll have to check the maps and see what total mileage will be on that. I think RT out and back straight to Cholla tank is only 7 miles, so that might not be a bad idea. I've done those trails back there, but its been a few years. I might make the right turn by the junction w/ Black Mesa trail on the way back depending on how I feel. Thanks for the suggestion.
