B-25D # 42-87457 Crash in Rincon Mountains

Post by arizonadreamer2003 »

HIstory Of Flight: 20 January 1945 This B-25 was on a routine navigation training flight from Kelly Field, Texas, to Tucson. At 13 miles east of Tucson, the pilot, Major Lorin Geil, requested permission to make a visual approach, which was granted. Five minutes later, the aircraft crashed into a canyon in the Rincon Mountains. Weather conditions at the time included snow squalls and clouds that obscured the mountains. The plane was found 10 days later with the tail sticking out of the snow.

Did you have any luck tracking this one down??

I dont know where that crash site is, but you can order the accident report from AAIR and try to find it using the report:

http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/

Notice, there is another crash up there too -- see this one:

I can tell you that usually when there is that much wreckage left it is pretty far off the beaten track!
