Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
Hey kids!
I actually have no plans for this Saturday, which is something I am not accustomed to. A few other plans fell through, so I am left with nothing to do. Every time this happens, I can't think of something I want to do, which sucks, because I have no problem thinking of hikes I want to do when my weekends are booked for months on end.
Anyway, does anyone want to hike on Saturday? I don't have anything specific in mind so I'm open to suggestions. Preferably I'd like to stay out of the Supes unless it's the east side, and someone has 4WD to get me to a trailhead I've never been to. I'm thinking about the Mazatzals, Sierra Ancha, Tucson area, anything west of Phx, or east of the Supes. I don't care about mileage or elevation gain.
So if there is a hike you want to do but didn't want to do it alone and you couldn't find a partner previously, here's your chance! Just post here or PM me if you want to go! Thanks!
Oh yeah! I'll drive as long as it doesn't require 4WD to get there. High Clearance is OK.

Or if someone wants to go climbing, that's an option as well. Probably the Oak Flat / Queen Creek area.

I think Saturday is open, have you looked at the City Creek trailhead? Its massive elevation gain but North Peak is doable in a day. It'll be cold.

Re: Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
So do you guys want to go hiking or what?
Mike, I have not looked at City-whatsitcalled trailhead. I really don't know where I want to go. I was hoping that you would tell me where I want to go. I thought you were tied up this weekend?

That's the beauty of a day hike. You could go hiking with me all day and then go see your sister's baby in the evening. Sounds like a plan to me.
Now....when and where? I'm intrigued by the Mazzy's, but the Sierra Ancha is calling me too.

Andrew,
Your lack of a car is no problem. Especially since I am located probably within a few hundred yards of you. Any hikes you've been itchin' to do?

Re: Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
we could go investigate those waterfalls out past the Chilson Camp area, on the Mazatzal divide trail (from Barnhardt saddle) they look really impressive. Todd's hiking guide did a report on the area, I think it was under the Sandy Saddle Loop.
then there's Hells' Hole out on Workman creek. Its about ~10 mile r/t into some pink granite areas. Or the Moody Point/Pueblo canyon/Cold Creek areas.

Re: Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
Those are all awesome ideas! I think I like the Hell's Hole idea best. Unless of course you think those waterfalls would be flowing. Is that the area where you were talking about a rappel?

I think the waterfall in Hells Hole will be flowing. I had to wade through Cherry Creek on Sunday because all the rocks are under water.

Re: Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
I might be interested in a Sierra Ancha hike for Saturday. Preferrably someplace without ridiculous amounts of snow. Has anyone been up in the interior recently?

Re: Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
I am leaning heavily towards the Hell's Hole hike. Preston, it'd be cool to hike with you!
I don't know about the snow, and honestly, I don't care if there is snow or not. I'll just bring some gaitors. Besides, if there is snow in that area, think of the awesome pics you'll get!
I won't be around the computer for most of the day; not till about 4 PM or so. I'll respond to any other posts then. So far, no one had committed (except fairweather, I guess) but I'm going regardless. It's more fun to hike with somebody else though.

Re: Day Hike on Saturday 01/19/08
The only snow last week I saw in Sierra Ancha was a dusting near the peaks of some 6000+ mountains, but the creeks are really flowing good...I'm looking up Hell's Hole now, I don't even know where that is...
