Needle Canyon, Superstitions 1-26/27
ive picked a route*... start at FW and go in across Black Mesa. Climb Bull Pass and drop down into the lower Needle Canyon. Hike NW through Needle and camp at the first suitable spot (in boulder cyn?)
Out Boulder Cyn to Second Water and the car(s). Sound reasonable?
*needle canyon is short, but without a real trail. Besides the section of JF from Tortilla to the so-named Pass, Ive only to hike the Black Mesa Tr. to finish ALL of the major marked trails in the western Supes. (not included are the off trails routes such as fish creek, trap canyon etc..)
Needle canyon is a great way to "spice up" the loop described here.

Re: Needle Canyon, Superstitions 1-26/27
I'll see what I can do to, and from the looks of it on the nat geo topo maps, there is a trail in needle canyon, would that be incorrect?

I used the term "...a real trail" meaning that it is unmaintained under the best circumstances. There is also a trail shown on some maps down in Pistol Canyon, but if you can find it, I'll give you $100

Re: Needle Canyon, Superstitions 1-26/27
This is good. I need that little section in boulder canyon and I'll have most of the western Supes as well. I guess we'll launch an assault on the eastern Supes next.

Re: Needle Canyon, Superstitions 1-26/27
I may be able to do this as a dayhike.
There are few campsites in Boulder Canyon. There may be a campsite just south of NC in BC, or else you'll want to look near Cavalry or Second Water intersections.

It wouldn't work for hammocks, but one could camp in Lower Needle. (it would be brisk, though, in winter) As well, there are some decent to good camps along the BCT, starting at about 33,29,32 by -111,23,57. and continuing up to the 2nd Water Junction.

I'd be down for this trip, but the notice was too short and I already have plans.wallyfarak wrote:If more people don't show up, who's gonna drink all the whiskey?

Re: Needle Canyon, Superstitions 1-26/27
The Needle Canyon trail runs right at the bottom of the canyon. It's not a very well maintained trail and, as posted above, is probably really hard to find. Might be better off just hiking the bottom of the canyon/following the topography than looking for a specific trail.
Sounds like a fun hike. Wish I could make it

Re: Needle Canyon, Superstitions 1-26/27
I've hiked through Needle several times - always in, or on the sides of, the creekbed. Heck , I never knew there was supposed to BE an existing trail in there.
