Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
I need to test out my new hammock in "the wild"! I want to do a simple overnighter on friday night. We will be back Saturday morning in time for a late breakfast. Looks like overnight lows will be in the high 40's if we don't wander to far out of the valley. I am open to the destination. Let's do it.

Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
there are a few good trees at Pinyon Camp- not 3 miles from Peralta Trailhead. here's a shot of my setup. (trees have a tapered effect so you can hang high and close or low and far... see pic)

oh, and there's clear running water not 30' away. you gotta love it!

Matt, you're in the Interested Column...why don't you pick a trail and slide on over into the "committed" column!

Give me a couple of hours to give you a definite response. Check back after 8pm or so.

I'm in! Tell me when and where. I'd like to avoid the Western Supes if possible; I'm hiking from Peralta Trailhead to First Water on Sunday with some other friends. Let me think for a minute and I'll throw some ideas at you.

Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
It's all up to you bro. I don't care at all. I can do up to 12 miles one way (which might be kind of far for a Friday afternoon). I would like to hike at least 4 or 5 miles just to say we left the parking lot. I also need something to hang my hammock from...but according to Ta We, creativity is the key here (you might have to stand all night long with my tree hugger strap around your neck
).

What time are you looking to leave? I probably couldn't feasibly leave until about 5pm or so. Maybe 4:30.

I will defintely be ready by then. So, whenever you're ready, we roll. We can hike by head lamp for a little while if we need. Sun will be going down around 6:30.

Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
In the Supes, this is always a good one: http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=205
You have to drive though.

Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
Do you want to do it as a shuttle, or do you want to hike the 3 miles of road to complete the loop? I guess we could do an out and back and only go halfway around the loop. I'll drive up there...no worries.

Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
Hiking the road is no big deal. That's what I usually do. I'm really trying to find something interesting and close that's not in the Supes. I'm getting tired though. I'll probably spring some other ideas on you tomorrow at the last minute.

Then go do something like Cave Creek or Mazatzals. Plenty of trees up there. What about Brown's Peak?

I think that loop hikes looks pretty good. Let's just do it so you can stop thinking.

Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
Yeah, I thought about that, but I guess I'm leaning towards something familiar since we'll be hiking in the dark, and I don't have maps of those areas. I need to acquire the program that lets me run Windows-based programs on my Mac. Right now I can't use my GPS software or National Geographic Topo. Plus, I will be trying to cram some other plans in on Saturday, so the closer to town the better. Browns Peak would be cool though.te-wa wrote:Then go do something like Cave Creek or Mazatzals. Re: Overnighter Friday night. QUICK!
I can print up TOPO maps of whatever trail we choose. I have the Nat. Geo TOPO program.
