I was planning on doing Hells Gate with some buddies on May 30 or 31st but might end up going to Fossil Springs instead because Im worried about what shape they are in. Neither one has been hiking for a while.
But anyway anyone want to try and hit either one of these as an overnight sometime in June. Im good any day weekday or weekend as long as it is sometime before June 22.
Let me know.

I already know that you all had a great time if you went seeing this was a long time ago. My question is: did your friends Xterra make it down and out that road outside of Young? I have been there many times with my Jeep and have seen other 4x's that couldn't make it to the trail head.

Yes, yes he did, even though he took the wrong road and had more of a 4x4 adventure than he really planned for. (FR 3801 - which is little more than a trace road, is mislabelled as FR 301 on some older maps.) (I should also note here that his Exterra is a little better equipped for this than regular stock models, and that Jayson is basically fearless behind the wheel). It did take us, though, the better part of an hour to bounce back to Young (and then another hour back to the HG trailhead).
While we were waiting for him (RT and I made good time coming out of Hell's Gate) we met a real cowboy with four dogs and a gun.
