Bear Wallow backpack - September 20 &21

Post by hikeaz »

A few of us are headed up near Hannagan Meadow to hike in the Bear Wallow Wilderness.
14 miles over 2 days - easy to moderate backpack.
If you would like to join us let me know.

This mostly downhill hike starts at 8,000 feet. We will descend the Rose Spring Trail and the Schell Canyon Trail until intersecting the Bear Wallow Trail. We will then follow the Bear Wallow Trail along Bear Wallow Creek, along which we will camp Saturday night. Sunday we will exit on the Gobbler Point Trail, which ascends 2000 feet in 2.7 miles.
The Bear Wallow Wilderness is home to some of the most extensive acreage of virgin ponderosa pine in the Southwest, along with aspen, fir, and spruce. The wilderness is home to elk, black bear, grey wolves, etc.
We will car camp Friday night at K.P. Cienega Campground for those who want to come up the night before, or meet at the Rose Spring Trailhead at 9:00 AM Saturday.

Watch where you step, lots of poison ivy when I did this trip several years ago.

Im very jealous of everyone making up to the Whites lately, I usually try to get up there at least once a year, but Ive been too busy lately, I will be anxiously awaiting photos from your trip!

Curious about your avatar, do you homebrew? or just really love beer?
