Sabino Canyon officially reopens
Just saw this on the Arizona Geology Blog
Sabino Canyon officially reopens
More than 2 years after massive monsoon rains devastated Sabino Canyon with floods and debris flows, the recovery work is complete. The US Forest Service is holding a formal grand reopening ceremony Saturday, November 15 at 10 a.m. in front of the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center.

I have mixed feelings about this, of course...

Re: Sabino Canyon officially reopens
You could, just not completely by the road. The Phoneline trail was open most of the time, minus a few short closures for bees and construction...

Blackett's Ridge is always a classic; this is a good time of year to do Esperero, too!

Re: Sabino Canyon officially reopens
The trams are pretty annoying, but one doesn't go to Sabino expecting a pristine hiking experience. I do miss the Catalinas SOOOOOOOOO damned much. How many cities have 4-season hiking in a setting as spectacular as the Santa Catalinas?

Re: Sabino Canyon officially reopens
Did they rebuild the restrooms at the top of the tram loop? I've never seen them in any other state than being buried under a pile of boulders. It looks kind of nice that way as far as I'm concerned, but there were a lot of people who evidently expected it to be there. The real highlight of the lower portion of Sabino is to people-watch.

That's for sure; same goes for the pools near the Sabino TH. Especially on a holiday weekend...JamesLyding wrote:Did they rebuild the restrooms at the top of the tram loop? I think the restrooms are still out of commission...
