Parking my car at W. Supes trailheads

I am heading up from Yuma in a month or so for a backpacking trip and was wondering if you would recommend which trailheads you would/would not feel safe parking your car in for a couple nights in the West Superstitions.

depends on the car...
i wouldnt park my 323i anywhere but my trucks are ok. I dont think there are many break-ins at First Water. Peralta may have some issue on occasion.
since you said "car" im assuming that is what you have. a truck will get you to far more interesting places. Like Tortilla Trailhead.

Actually I should have said truck, not car. I have Tacoma 4x4, which should give me some more TH options.

i sometimes wonder if parking in a remote TH is actually a safer bet than one that is more heavily used...less people see your vehicle, but that means less people would see your vehicle being broken into as well... ?

Most thieves look in the truck or car before they take a chance. If the interior is clean with no obvious loot they move on. Put everything in the trunk. Additionally I leave a few empty shot gun shell boxes in the truck, one right on the dashboard one on the drivers seat.....to send a message.

That knife cuts both ways...many are looking for things like guns that they can sell for quick cash. Also, leave your transfer case in neutral (if you have one). They never figure that one out if they're trying to steal your truck...doesn't help a smash -n-grab...

Drive into the Tortilla Ranch. Not many vehicles can make it back there, and most people back there aren't looking for stuff to steal

First Water is also relatively safe (at the main trailhead) as the rangers go in there quite a bit.

Ya I would totally trust First Water. Also great thing is that trailhead is a great place to start most western Supes adventures.

Judging by the amount of glass mixed in with the gravel at the First Water Trail Head I don't think your completely safe there either.

I would say the safest bet would be to park at Lost Dutchman state park for theres always people camping and staying overnight. And I dont think thieves are too happy with having to pay a fee to get in somewhere. If looking for an overnight backpacking adventure, it would be the best place to park and do the superstition ridgeline. its also not too much further to hike to first water TH from the state park.

Maybe if you trashed the inside of your car and make it really dirty on the outside it will be less appealing to thieves!

Take a couple of unused baby diapers and role them up like they are dirty and have been used. Then place them on your vehicles dash for all to see.
Add an empty nursing bottle as well. This should do the trick!
