Bike helmets

Any suggestions for an adult bike helmet ? Pulled a few G's (oh gee the ground is coming up) riding my bicycle and had a few minor scrapes, though the rolls and tumbles are probable good practice for skydiving, I figure I should be wearing a helmet.

I've had a couple of nasty spills on a mountain bike and have considered getting a helmet with a wrap around chin guard. Giro makes one called the Switchblade with a removable chin guard. If you're going to be doing technical downhill routes (like National Trail) you might want to look into something with more protection than a a regular helmet.

Not wearing a helmet is asking for trouble. As skilled a cyclist as you may be, you cannot control all the variables (pedestrians, motorists, etc). It is, respectfully, foolish not to wear a helmet.

Like anything else in life, they are available in a variety of styles and prices, some cost more than my first bicycle. The single most inportant factor is that the helmet complies with US CPSC safety standards.

Sports Authority has decent helmets for 20 bucks. You can find them even cheaper online at http://www.nashbar.com or supergo.com

Most cyclists will not ride with someone who is not wearing a helmet.

It really is a wise purchase.

You really can find all kinds of helmets on-line these days for good prices. Bell makes some good quality ones that are not too expensive. I am a fanatic about bike helmets!

Years ago, my bike slipped on gravel while riding near the Santans, and I fell right in front of my husband, who proceeded to ride his bike OVER MY HEAD. I had bike tred marks on my helmet, the visor popped off and hit me in the face, and I had a baseball sized bump on my knee. I had a concussion, but it turned out okay. I shudder to think what would have happened if I didn't have my helmet on. I have a stubborn sister who rides about 50 miles a day, and she won't wear a helmet (even though I sent her one for her birthday). I shudder to think about her helmetless too!

By the way, cycling is a great way to balance your exercise routine!

Go down to your local bike shop or the Sports Authority and get one fitted in person. If it is light weight and it fits well then it will be more comfortable. Be sure and get a stylish one to. One must look good out there. That will make you wear it all the time. Once you get used to wearing it, you will feel naked without it. They do a real good job of preventing some real serious head injuries which can happen even at extremely slow speeds. It may be the cheapest money you have ever spent. The real nice ones can get a bit expensive but it is for a good cause. Just Do It.

Giro puts out nice looking helmets and, if I remember correctly, they were the top rated by Consumer Reports for protection and ventilation.

Ditto on the Giro's. Their helmets are very comfortable, feel like your not wearing anything. They also look cool

As a guy that has been a road biker for 30 yrs. Get one that fitts forget the brands. I have used Bell and Giro and like the Giro rock loc's the best. As for price I find that most bike shops will match or beat the internet.
