Clueless gets a GPS!

Post by RedRoxx44 »

A generous Santa Claus has sent me a GPS. Seriously, it came in the mail and I have no idea who sent it---it is to me--and I've queried the usual suspects and they have denied all. I gather it's expensive and I've looked at it a little online but don't know much about it. It is a Suunto X10 big huge wrist watch style. It's charging now. I'm pretty intimidated by it---I am challenged by much computing or any tech camera stuff. What's weird is I was looking at some of this stuff online not long ago, but didn't make any decisions about it. Anyone with any experience with this product???

Congratulations! I suspect you'll probably want to use it mainly for the occasional position check and as an altimeter. My only suggestion is to use UTM coordinates and mark your maps accordingly (if they aren't already).

That's definitely there high end model. I don't really think it will be all that useful for you though, besides a big fancy watch and altimeter. I would take it back if possible, REI doesn't carry it yet. If you can exchange it I would get the Garmin GPSMAP 76CSX, the same one Shawn had on the Gila trip. I picked one of those up a few months ago and it's pretty easy to use. I think it would give you more useful data than the wrist top one is going to. Cool secret santa though.
