Post by hikeaz »

Anyone have a current road? condition report into the Upper Horrell T/H?

Thanks!

Kurt,

I don't have current info, it's has been a year since I've been on 449a. The rancher has a sign posted that 4WD is required--that's mostly due to the possibility of soft sand in the creek bed just past the ranch.

If no one replies that has been there within the last week or so, you might try a phone call or email to Reevis Mountain School--they have contact info listed on their web site. (Reevis is the correct spelling.)

Elisha Reavis was known to spell his name both ways.. so I think either spelling is correct -

Thanks guys. I was beginning to wonder if this was a hiking website or a speed camera website........
I had considered calling the Reevis School, but hated to bother them - likely they get enough hikers bothering them in person.
Generally the wetter months are better for access, as the sand, when dry, is usually the impediment - but I was wondering if the creek had flooded and/or if the USFS had run a blade through there recently. Either way, I can make it, I was merely wonderin' 'sall.
Mike, I am considering a short backpack this W/E camping @/near the Campaign/F.L. junction with a day hike from there up to C-stone.

Kurt, I'd watch out for speed cameras on Fr 449a. :sl:

I plan on going in there probably Feb 21-22 so please update if you go.

The road from the highway to the ranch has been recently bladed and is in suprisingly good shape. As the sand is wet right now, the trip can be done in a 2WD vehicle provided it has a locking differential.
