Just got a cool new book from Costco."The Rocks Begin To Speak" by LaVan Martineau(part Natve American, fluent in cryptography)has made it his life to study+decipher petroglyphs, The book has lots of photos+ drawings+explanations of different tribes+symbols. It's very interesting! I always wondered what they meant+now I have some idea! Maybe I'll bring it to the Chili Bash(+ a foot sander for Teva!!)
What about pictoglyphs ?. I came across a pictoglyph (white pigment on paint) that consists of 13 man like figures in a circle around a symbol that depicts a circle similar to a sun.
At Hieroglypic Springs in the Superstition Wilderness Area some of the animal figure petroglyphs were placed over geometric shaped petroglyphs.
Yes,Nighthiker,I saw those in the Superstitions. Some are similar to the ones in this book.I think the circles or swirls over the animals mean flooding+the animals went under. It's a pretty cool book.If you belong to Costco, look for it.I got it at the 44th/Thomas Costco.
I have a friend/neighbor named Patrick Cain.He is currently writing a book and a chapter will explore Native American culture.Specifically the Hopi Prophecies and a petroglyph called Prophecy Rock. With his permission, this is his research on Prophecy Rock:[short version]
Located in the mysterious Four Corners area of America on a remote desert mesa are sacred rock drawings that reveal prophetic messages for the New Millennium.Etched into a rock on Black Mesa near old Oraibi are petroglyphs that contain the Hopi life plan or Divine code of life.Prophecy Rock,as it's called,is to the Hopis what the Ark of the Covenant is to the Hebrews.
The figure to the far left represents the Creator who reveals the path of peace and life. Some choose to walk in balance and live in harmony with nature-but most do not.Instead ,they attempt to set themselves above nature.Their hearts & minds are not one. They are divided andcreate division. They are polluters and plunderers of the planet.Their ways are destructive and they walk a broken path to oblivion. The first two circles represent World War 1&2.The half circle or mystery egg symbolizes the Great Purification or time of transition, when all nations will unite. It's the Hopi version of the Biblical Great Tribulation. This transformational birthing period ,however, can come about either smoothly or with difficulty, depending on the condition of people's hearts. The line intersecting both paths is the last oppurtunity for those out of balance to come back to nature and their spiritual center. That time is now according to Native American elders, who are also known as the Earthkeepers-those who hold the world in balance.
I found that link [google]after trying to draw the petroglyph with the keyboard.
I posted the link to illustrate the petroglyph, cause patience is a virtue but it ain't one of mine.
GeorgAZ, this is the link to a pictoglyph that I observed near Payson http://www.hikearizona.com/t2002/dated/ ... VPicto.jpg
this is painted on a rock overhang and the circle is apx. 30" in diameter. Other places that I have noted a large concentration of pictoglyphs in Central AZ includes the Aqua Fria Nat. Mon. and near Globe AZ. Petroglyphs I have noted all over the place. I was at Costco today but forgot the book. Thanks
Nighthiker, that is awesome! I'll have to compare it to the meanings in the book.Where is it in Payson(not that anyone can go right now).I'd like to see it!
