Anyone going to Oak Creek Canyon this week?

Let me know if you're up for some hiking. I plan at being at either Manzanita or Pine Flat campgrounds. Tue-Thu. Probably doing AB Young on Tuesday

If you do the AB Young, can you post a description of trail conditions with regard to vegetation? I like the trail, but the last time I did it in May of 2008 the trail was getting to be so over grown that I decided against doing it until there was trail maintenance.

Definitely. I don't remember it being bad at all last spring.

When I went up in late May I felt like I was bushwhacking instead of hiking a trail. If late April was when you were last up, there had been a new flush of growth. Wilson Mt above the first bench was bad in late summer, but it got some attention and was much improved last month.

I'll be up in Oak Creek Wednesday-Friday of this week, though I may take a detour and do some hiking in the GC.

How are weather conditions up there? I had intended to try out AB Young (haven't done it yet) either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning -- how is it this time of year?

Weather should be nice. Highs in the 60s, getting up to the 70s in the sun. Morning lows ranging from the upper 30s in the shaded upper portions of Oak Creek Canyon to the high 40s in the more open places. I'm hiking AB Young on Thurs morning so maybe I'll see you on my way down.

It's been very windy here in Flagstaff all day and it is still gusting, and the winds are expected to be 10-15mph tomorrow. There could be some precip on Thursday.
