Angel Basin and Circlestone

I've got a couple of questions. Is there water at Angel Basin? Also, heading north from there can I assume that there will be water at Fish Canyon? Next week. Also, is there any water from Reavis Ranch trail to Circlestone? Should i fill up there before heading up Fireline? Also next week.

Rogers Canyon stream is running all the way from the beginning of the trail head parking lot and down into Fish Creek. However there is a dead horse in the water 8 tenths of a mile downstream from the trail head. Therefore wait until you find water from side canyons before using the water in the Rogers Canyon stream.

Fill up from the spring at Reavis or from the creek before heading up to Circlestone.

Thanks for the info. Just one thing that I am not clear on regarding Rogers Canyon trailhead. Are you refering to Rogers Trough? If we hit Angel Basin coming down from Tortilla Pass are we okay or are you talking about the junction of RC and JF? Sorry if it's a dumb question, newbie to these trails.

Why is there always a dead horse? As soon as the critters large and small do away with one stinking carcass, somebody has to rush out there and drop off another one. Do people look for which horse is about to die and then say "we need to get this guy out into the backcountry quick so that he can rot in a water source"?

I guess a dead horse is better then a dead hiker. Wasn't there a song about a nod is as good as a wink to a dead horse? Perhaps deaf horse.

My mom and her group saw that dead horse 5 weeks ago. One would think that the coyotes, vultures, etc. would at least start scattering it about. If it's been there this long I'd hope that a bear would smell it all the way from the eastern Supes, and come down to have a snack. I wonder if it got poisoned?

Horse is still there, still stinking, and still basically intact. I think it came up lame and was shot. The blanket they left over the horse is no longer covering it.

Rogers Trough TH is what Supesguy meant by Rogers Canyon TH. I trimmed the entire trail from Rogers TH to the ruins. A bunch of us worked on the trail from woodbury to the ruins but did not quite finish it.

If you come in from Woodbury you will find water within a mile on the JF or at the end when you get down into angel basin. Reavis Creek will have water but there will be little/none on the hike to Circlestone and back.

This is correct and the best water flow for filtering if hiking in from Woodbury TH on the JF Trail#106 is 1.5mls in at the Randolph Canyon intersection at waypoints: N33 25.494 W111 13.056;

Definitely fill up before hiking the Fireline Trail. There is no water between the Reavis Trail junction and the Circlestone trail, but (in an emergency) there was water about a mile past the Circlestone trail on the Fireline.

The blanket was lying in the creek just a little downstream from the horse when I was there a few weeks ago. I dragged it out onto the shore several feet from the water's edge on the other side.

I was really surprised at how "intact" that horse still is after 4 months out there. It doesn't seem scavanged at all. Even the vultures don't want it. :yuck:

Once again, thanks for all the useful info. FYI heard that the horse fell off a cliff and was shot. I hope that my hiker partners treat me better!
