Chiricahua Crest - Camping spots

Post by Schmoopyjoe »

Hi,

I'm planning to access the Chiricahua Crest trail via the South Fork (Cave Creek) trail #243. I'll be accessing the trail near Sentinel Peak. I was wondering -- are there any nice campsites near Sentinel peak, or will I have to go the extra four miles to Anita Park? Also, any idea what the water situation is right now? Any water at Burnt Stump, Ojo, Deer Spring, Eagle Spring, Anita, etc.?

Thanks. Any information is appreciated.

Joe

Not familiar with that part of the Crest Trail - though I've wanted to hike it for a while... I'd be very cautious about water up there this time of year, however. I usually camp at Anita, and while I've never seen it completely dry, it's not a rushing torrent even at the best times, and we haven't had significant precip in quite a while (depending on what the current system does...)

I haven't been there recently, but I would bet money that Ojo has water.

I really need to get up there a few times this year...
