How do I add trails to my wish list (I'm a newbie)?
Also, does anyone recommend Cabin Loop - Mogollon Rim, AZ for a beginner? My girlfriend and I are looking to get our feet wet with backpacking and this seemed like a good start.

Re: Adding wishlist
She'll suggest a trip/idea/area and ask me what information I have on it, ask me to do the research/planning/etc, and she handles most of the logistics (loading vehicle/packing gear/food shopping/etc.). I would love it if she would totally plan a trip though, I am not trying to be some controlling, misogynistic, powertripping trip leader (and I'm aware that no one has suggested that I am), it has always just worked out that I am the planner.azbackpackr wrote:Maybe you should see if SHE might like to plan a trip. She would choose the place, get the maps, guidebook, study them, plan the food, all the logistics, call the rangers, do the internet searches, go shopping, etc.
Maybe when she gets back from Tucson I'll ask her to plan our next backpack and see how it goes!

I resemble that remark ;) but hunting snipes, I think not.te-wa wrote:ha! wait till you start leading trips and you get to experience "kitten herding" at its finest.. 11 tired, cold and hungry adult backpackers who look as if they'd rather be in Siberia hunting snipes in their underwear.
i do it 2x per month!

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Did you guys know there really IS a bird called a snipe? Check your Peterson's guide if you don't believe me!
And Rob, perhaps you could suggest that she also invite a gal pal who is physically fit but less experienced, so she has someone to teach.

yes, its a shoreline bird and the reason we have the word "sniper". Since they are so hard to hunt, you have to be an expert to shoot one. TRUE story.

Word to that. If my girlfriend enjoyed backpacking then I'd have to fight to go solo, which is what I really love (going solo, not fighting).dysfunction wrote:azbackpackr wrote:Neither a dragger nor a draggee be...
