Squaw Peak Creek

Post by GTG_AZH »

Well I finally got to do Squaw Peak in the rain today. It almost got the best of me though. Things were getting dusty by the time I got to the top. Coming down the storm hit like the devil and I saw the trail turn into a wash. If you are ever up there during a rain, be very carefull, the rocks slick up like ice. I also got a picture of my ringtail buddy finally.

WOW! Those are some nice pictures. Those dust walls can be mighty impressive sometimes.

So you're telling me that ringtail is up on Squaw Peak? Far out man. I am going to be looking for him from now on. Do you usually spot him in the evening? I haven't hiked there in the evening so that might be one reason for never having seen him.

Ringtail

Post by GTG_AZH »

At dusk be real quiet and sit on the rocks facing north. He'll come right out, almost to you. Don't feed him though, he may bite you or worse yet, learn to beg from humans, leaving him dependent on hikers for dinner.

He licked off some guys water bottle the first time I saw him back in March, this was just before he rounded a rock and came face to face with me.

Gee, thanks GTG! Now Mrs Mike wants a ringtail for a pet!! Somehow though, I don't think our other "ringtail", ( dead link removed ), would go for it. (she's a "Maine Coon" cat; they're from Maine and have ringed tails, thus the name.)

Another good place to spot a ringtail is at the edge of the Flatiron. There's one living up there I've seen everytime I've been there.

We were at Cactus & Tatum when this storm blew in. Your third photo is probably looking in our general direction about the same time.

Excellent pics GTG! Does that critter have a name? If he doesn't, he(or she) should. Is there more than one?

Critter

Post by GTG_AZH »

I have only seen one up there and if it's got a name, I don't know it. He always shows up when the camera is off and doesn't stick around too long or like to be followed. I'll just call him Slick for now.

I really like the dust wall. I sent it to my family in washington. They were amazed.

Dustwall

The third picture of mine looks like an edit job to me, that wall looks like it was added after the picture was taken. Joe had some photos posted earlier in the month that were better than mine -

Fine photography indeed, but no picture of Slick though.

How Do You Do That?

Post by zenphx »

Hi Todd,

Those Are great pictures. Very ethereal feel to them.

I agree about Squaw Peak in the rain. Those slate steps and rock turn into Ice when wet. I try to not to be there in the rain, but every so often you get caught.

How do you post pictures on here such that you can refer to them with a hyperlink?? I posted those pictures of Tapeats Creek, but the URLs look much different.
