Cathedral Rock - Hutch's Pool Traverse, AZ
I'm going to do an overnighter at Cathedral Rock - Hutch's Pool Traverse, AZ on Labor Day weekend. Are there any tips I should know about this trail? I've read the review online, so I know there is a water-less area right around Cathedral Rock. Is there a need for GPS on this hike?

You'd be better off with the "Santa Catalina Mountains - A Trail and Recreation Map" available at Summit Hut. Get ready for some elevation gain. Enjoy, the scenery is amazing!

Yes, Eber's map is the one to have, RIP Eber. What about Bridal Veil Falls, is it dry right now? Is West Fork Sabino running? Those are the questions I'd be asking. I'd be calling the ranger station to see if they have any idea, also. Hutch's itself will have water in it, of course.

Bridal Veil will be a trickle this time of year. I've never visited it in any season and seen it dry, but it might take a while to get a reasonable amount of water out of it. There will probably be a little water running near Mormon Spring, too...azbackpackr wrote:Yes, Eber's map is the one to have, RIP Eber. What about Bridal Veil Falls, is it dry right now? So is water fairly scarce throughout the hike?

This time of year it definitely will be, yes. You should be able to get at least some water at Bridal Veil, but the next "real" source will be Hutch's unless you go right after or during a storm; in which case, some water will probably be present near Mormon Spring and the stream bed...

I wouldn't count on there being any water at all. I have hiked up to cathedral before and saw a few damp places, but nothing you could get a usable amount of water from.

There's always at least "some" usable water at Bridal Veil. Not much elsewhere, though, I agree...CSNeoM4A1 wrote:I wouldn't count on there being any water at all. I have hiked up to cathedral before and saw a few damp places, but nothing you could get a usable amount of water from.
