I thought it might be nice to have a not-so controversial topic as some of the recent. I noticed that there are some obvious pet owners out there; ie., Hoolie, Snick and Fritzski. What about some of the rest of you? do you have pets? No? Yes? What kind? Names?

We have two dogs and four cats to add to the ten humans at home. The dogs are a Golden retriever(Wesley) and a Queensland Healer(Charlie Girl). The Cats are: Pisky, Whipper, Sly and Rocky. This is Rocky my favorite:

I don’t know if they are pets. They don’t think so………

There are two small, crazed furry things who let me share their house. To do so, I must cook for them (things like salmon, pot roast and their favorite, shrimp----I’m not kidding), abide their antics, play games where I don’t always win and look for an unoccupied space on the furniture. They can outhike me, outrun me, sense things much better and most of the time outthink me in the wild world. They teach me things that my race has long forgotten.

Yeah, I have 3 1/2 year old German Shepherd named Chunga. Back in Pennsylvania where I'm from he did lots of hiking with me. I'm not quite sure how much he will do here though. I'm still so new to the area I'd like to get a feel for the trails before I start taking him. But he sure does love a swim out in the wild!

On most of my outside adventures, I have my dog Buffett as a partner. She's a 2.5 year old smooth collie mix we rescued from the shelter. Having had about a half dozen dogs throughout my life, I gotta say, this is the best dog ever! Excellent trail partner as well!

I have a cholcolate lab. Great on the trails, lousy fishing partner. He always chases my flies. My children have 3 cockatiels and 2 parakeets. The cockatiels think they own the house. Needless to say, they never hit the trail with us. :?

We have one slightly overweight, middle-aged, Maine Coon cat. Her name is Puff. She's somewhere around 10 years old, but we're not sure because, I adopted her from an old roommate of mine. She's completely spoiled (I won't say by whom, because if I did, Mrs Mike would just post and deny all the charges  ), very intelligent, very affectionate and mild-mannered, most of the time. She turns into a wildcat around the full moon!! And, hiking is the furthest thing from her mind. Her hobbies are sleeping, eating, and running around her castle (aka, our home) squawking at 5 am.

I have a 15 month old border collie named CJ that is amazing. We are training him for search and rescue. He's certified for hasty searches, but not fully state certified yet. The test is too long to do in the hotter months so we'll be testing him in the fall. We got to use him on his first search last week when that 4 year old girl turned up missing in Mesa. He is without doubt the smartest creature in the house. We have trouble keeping up with him, if we don't teach him new things regularly he becomes a handfull.
His partner in crime is a rather large grey and black long hair cat named Louie who is now about 3 years old. It's fun to watch two of them team up on catching moths that make their way into the house, but watching them wrestle is hilarious. They go at it WWF style.

We have a 5 yearold Bassett Hound named Benson. He's a city boy. He will go on some shorter hikes, but, is not super thrill with camping. His idea of a goodtime is sleeping on his soft pillow, having his doggie treats, and taking RIDES in the jeep.
It's the journey, not the destination. ENJOY, and keep it SIMPLE

I have two dogs right now, Spud (a pit who thinks he's a cat) Poncho (think Taco Bell) but I like to brag about my old Golden Retriever Max. You can see him modeling doggie coats on the cover of Campanion Road Pet Fashion boxes at PetsMart. He also visited sick people in the hospital and old folks home. When we left Flagstaff I couldn't see bringing Max to a tiny yard in the heat of the Valley when he loved to run and LOVED the snow. So we sold Max to a super couple who really gave him more than I ever could. Sadly he died last Christmas from the dreaded cancer. Anyhow, look for his picture when your at PetsMart ~ he's so pretty!

The Wonder Cat

Post by Randy »

I live with Reggie the Wonder Cat. I'm historically a dog person and have had beagles most of my life. Since I live alone and have good furniture, Reggie (who came declawed from a foster kennel) is low risk and low maintenance. He does not hike, he shops....

Reggie likes guns, mostly the cartridges which are fun to bat around on the floor, but he does not carry, either open or concealed. Too heavy for a cat

I wasn't originally going to reply to this thread - but others have posted about past pets - so I will too.

When Mrs. Olesma and I got married we got a cat - Cleopatra. She was a psychotic little thing, but very entertaining. Unfortunately we had to give her to some friends of ours because our appartment complex objected to her presence. Now she lives on a 1 acre property in No. Cal. - happy as can be with room to roam and chase field mice.

We then got a cat from a shelter - a Main Coon hybrid - absolutely the most melow and beautiful cat. Just fantastic as a pet. Unfortunately (for the cat) we had our son. Since we live in a condo, we didn't really have a place to put the litter box where Caleb couldn't get to it (we prefer to have indoor cats only - safer that way for the cat - no cars to run them over indoors). So I gave her to a friend of mine named Greg - a devout budist. He renamed the cat Carma. All you pop culture gurus out there will understand the reference - and no, it wasn't my idea.

Caleb it turns out absolutely loves cats. Scared of dogs for now though. As soon as we get a house we will get a cat for him. Then in a year or so we will get a dog - don't know exactly which breed to get yet, but we'll do all the appropriate research when the time comes.

Maybe we should have a HAZ event at one of the local dog parks?

The HAZ dog social?

There is a huge dog park near Greenfield and McDowell in Mesa.
