Introductory level DSLRs

Post by hippiepunkpirate »

I'm thinking about getting into level DSLR, hopefully around Christmas. Because I have a BestBuy credit card that allows zero interest for the first few months, I'm kind of limited to what they have in stock. I'd prefer to not spend more than $600, but would be willing to spend up to $800 for a worthwhile camera. So basically, at this point I've narrowed it down to the Canon Rebel XS and the Nikon D3000. Both cameras have great reviews on the BestBuy website, and elsewhere it seems. Any thoughts, opinions, other ideas (Joel, Nick, Joe, et. al)?

well, I consulted the manual... it was bothering me after I looked into my veiwfinder and saw that little digit looking back at me... had to go looking for an explanation.

Yep - that's it.

I set the my 20D to Med-JPG with an 8 GB-UDMA card and held the button down in Continuous mode and it fired with no issue. I then set it to RAW+Large JPG and it fired of seven and then had to pause, the digit turned to a "1"

I set the 1DM3 to Raw+L-jpg and it had a 24.. triggered it and it ran like a Phalanx gun for 3 sec until the buffer was full. Too bad our brides don't often sprint and juke like running backs down the aisle! (wedding tomorrow!)

happy shooting and fill those buffers!

don't be - I'd rather have another 5DM2 (now if it was a 1DsM3 drool!

out 1D has the 'soft-focus' issue in any RAW setting. It's been back to Canon for testing and upgrading, but to no avail :bdh: . and it's heavy, so I usually get assigned to carry it with the 70-200\2.8L.

I usually look like this after an all-day wedding: http://earlthebutcher.files.wordpress.c ... regg21.jpg

we mainly got it for the AWESOME low-light fast focus capability, which rocks. But why have a fast focus if the frame is gonna be 'soft' ](*,) in the end. I guess it's OK for bridal portraiture, no need to do skin softening in PP...
