Without trying to diminish the severity of this last storm, Sunrise is notorious for "over-reporting" its snow depth.charkellyaz18 wrote:Also on the sunrise website they are reporting a snowdepth of 97-140!!!!!!!!
I would be very surprised if there's not 97 (or even 140) inches of snow somewhere on that mountain. But to pretend that 97 is the LOWEST amount that they have is silly.
Either way, there's plenty of snow up there, and I'd love to launch off that cliff under the Cyclone triple with that kind of snow underneath it! (You know, if they ever manage to open the place!)

Re: The Exciting 2009-2010 Snow Thread!
Yep after all the rain we got...One day saw over 3 inches in the rain gauge and then we had 12 inches on our deck 4 inches on Thursday night and Friday day another 8 inches.... We had a Kitty litter bucket on the deck with straight sides and it filled up with water.... So total rain I am not sure how much (have a leak in my rain gauge)..writelots wrote:PAYSON 11.5 INCHES (1215PM MST SAT) Payson. Seriously. Wow.

Got this in my work e-mail. Damage from last week's storm. The tire tracks in front of the bus are from a backhoe that tried to extricate the bus.

Re: The Exciting 2009-2010 Snow Thread!
Amend that to "extremely mushy, wet snow" in our valley, but up higher in Greer, etc. I am sure they got more than we did and it is going to be a proper snow, not all this slush. We got about 4 inches, not 2, also. Realized that when I was driving my route this morning.

Re: The Exciting 2009-2010 Snow Thread!
We got a mix of rain and snow in town yesterday. Nothing substantial, but it did raise our monthly precipitation total to 5.6 inches for January. We won't make 6 inches, but this is still a pretty wet month. We have also had 93.4 inches of snow this season. Our normal for a year is right at 100 inches, so we're doing OK. Personally, I can use a break from the gloom and wet weather. I'd like another big storm in a few weeks, but nothing soon.

We didn't get nearly as much down south here as they got up north. But I imagine that the high country has a nice, thick, soft blanket over it. Hmmm...how can I be in 3 places at once?cathymocha wrote:I wonder how much snow the Chiricahua's got?

Re: The Exciting 2009-2010 Snow Thread!
PageRob, the photo of the school bus is now posted at our bus barn here in RV. Showed it to the gals this morning--we all had the same thought: "Glad it wasn't MY bus!"
Our snow is sticking, but the roads are very good. I hope we get more tonight. Meanwhile all I do is go to work, come home, study, go to work, come home, study. I am trying to get way ahead on my online classes, so I can coast a little. I do plan on skiing Pole Knoll this weekend! I have skied Murray Basin, and Water Canyon Road, and right here in town, over the past week or so. Haven't posted them up on HAZ, though.
My neighbor built the coolest igloo in his front yard. (Pun? ;) ) Wish I had taken a photo before it melted into a heap. He used a device you can buy to build it. He says he is going to get some snowshoes, hike into the backcountry and build one and sleep in it, but he says you have to have at least two people to build it, and it takes several hours, at least, to build. Here is the device: http://www.grandshelters.com/icebox-igloo.html

New snow covering the mountain here, and all of Alamogordo... Sierra Blanca really living up to it's name, even around on the sunny side... it be a real winter this year.

Re: The Exciting 2009-2010 Snow Thread!
Yeah, we are so far south, that even getting some nice annual hits, the typical pattern is to melt off after a week... this year we are getting accumulations. Sierra Blanca's south facing slope is well above tree line and burns off fairly fast... the ski slope is really on a connected adjacent peak (... learned that the hard way many years ago) and faces off to the north and east.jhodlof wrote:I understand that's pretty rare.imike wrote:New snow covering ...
