Trying out a new trail, which do you recommend?

Post by jeffalley »

My Brother and I are going on a short backpacking trip this weekend in the Globe Area, and we have narrowed down our decision to two trails; Moody point or Haunted canyon. Suggestions? We are planning on hitting the trail by 2pm friday, and getting back to the car anytime on sunday. We both are experienced hikers, but relatively green on backpacking trips. Thank you for any feedback...

:welcome:
While I'm sure somebody else will be able to give you a more specific answer to your question, if you haven't already done so, look up the hike descriptions ... and especially the triplogs ... to get a good idea of what others have experienced.

Since you already have trails in mind, at the top of the homepage, select the correct letter of the alphabet and choose the hike from the pulldown menu (Click "H", and select "Haunted Canyon", etc.)
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Haunted Canyon would be my choice. Not a lot of grade, lots of water, nice places to camp and it is a very pretty area.

Thank you for advice, and for responding. I have read the triplogs on both trails, (and about a hundred others as well!). I was just kind curious what people thought on a head to head level. Both sound great. In response to chumley:

Moody Point? In the Sierra Anchas? Holy hell that's steep for a backpack. And high in elevation.

Haunted Canyon would be my choice, flatter, some interest (Tony Cabin) but it will still likely get very cold (think sub freezing.)

Thanks for the warning. I have read all the logs and information i can find on moody point (sierra anchas), and although everyone mentioned the inherent difficulty of the trail, it is very helpful to get direct information from people. Thank you. I have been leaning towards haunted canyon, i suppose the last couple post's have clinched it for me.
