It is obviously a hiking addiction...
Between hiking, planning to hike, playing with hiking equipment... then, talking about hiking... and reading about hiking and hikes yet to be done, then, writing about hikes they've done... along with writing/sharing hiking and non-hiking related thoughts in forums.... do the readers of this site really have jobs, and if so... do they honestly put in legitimate hours of work at their jobs?
and... is this a good thing... or, something in need of serious treatment?

In a great part, it is thanks to HAZ that I am as productive at work. For a few seconds in between stressful situation after stressful situation each day I can see what others saw that day in their photo sets and concentrate on lighter topics in the forum. It's a lifesaver...

He he!
Yeah, I do school full time on line and also drive a school bus. I do spend way too much time goofing off. Right now, though I have barely enough time to go ride my bike, so I had better turn off the computer and do it!

I live vicariously through you guys... I care more about what's happening in the AZ wilderness than I do about anything in CA! One of these days, I'll even start to recognize trail names and locations (getting fairly decent at it already...). Only thing that's proving problematic - can't conveniently jet out there for day hikes (maybe with three-day weekends, mmmmmmmmm...)

Re: It is obviously a hiking addiction...
Had a job, now I just hike, plan to hike, play with hiking equipment, talk about hiking, read about hiking and hikes yet to be done, write about hikes I've done and am going to do.
I think it's a good thing, I could be in front of the tv, in a wife-beater t shirt and boxers, working on a case of beer and a 2 pound bag of cheetos, watching Fox Screws Network or the like.

Re: It is obviously a hiking addiction...
Hey I am originally from that area--some very nice backpacking out there--Anza-Borrego, PCT, Cuyamacas, etc. That is where I got started with backpacking. I go out there several times a year to visit family but we mainly just do some short hikes and bike rides here and there.PLC92084 wrote:I live vicariously through you guys... I don't have class until a week from Monday, then 2 weeks of classes, then Spring Break. If I don't get 100 miles in between now and the end of Spring Broke then I should be horse-whipped.

Re: It is obviously a hiking addiction...
There's a lot worse things to do with your time. Stumbling across this site was excellent.
IMO, of all the sites this is the best hiking one hand's down because...
1. A whole host of characters that write the hike descriptions
2. They're real trip descriptions instead of many of the ones you find in books that you suspect the author never hiked
3. triplogs - like a bunch of wonderful addendums to the original hike descriptions
4. Photos and ratings (don't tell me you haven't thought about a rating as you've snapped the photo) ;)
5. GPS routes - this is my favorite, many hiking sites don't even have them :thanx:
6. A useful forum that's incredibly well behaved compared to most free-for-alls
:bdh:
Therefore, I don't think it's an unhealthy addiction. Just fun.

That's one of the great things about doing a lot of audit work...plenty of downtime waiting for reports to run or things to format!
