No personal knowledge, but rumor has it that it's a great tent
No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength

A lot of people like that tent. I'm a Tarptent Contrail fan myself.

I bit the bullet as much for the floor space (27 sq ft versus 18 in my Mtn Hrdwr PCT 1) as for the pound or so weight difference. Danged impulse purchasing will by my financial ruin!

shawn, that is IMHO the best tarptent on the market. now you just need a Gossamer Gear Gorilla to round out the package. good buy!

*edit*
keep in mind, there is a guyout on the sides (the head/foot sides) that will allow you to take a hiking pole, and using a clove hitch dramatically increase headroom on the side of your choice. This simple practice will make it feel palatial inside.

Ok, Shawn, The Man has spoken. Now I want one, too! Thank you for doing all my research for me! You could market that skill, and pay for your new gear...

I like my SilTarp II http://www.integraldesigns.com/product_ ... N=16172597
It's advertised at 14oz and is 8' x 10'. I add more weight because I pre-tie the line on it to make it easier to set up. One of the main problems with these things is that they are so light the even the slightest wind makes them difficult to set up. Pre-tieing the lines helps.

te-wa - what do you think about the Tarptent Rainbow? http://www.tarptent.com/rainbow.html How does it compare to this SixMoonDesigns. My buddy Eric (Morel) has this SixMoonDesigns tent and likes it. I know people with the Tarptent Rainbow and they like it.

ps - I liked the Ninja squirrel the best :)

For two people (or one with extra space), I really like my Double Rainbow. The extra width makes it more storm-worthy than the Rainbow when fully guyed out. The SMD Lunar Duo is quite similar and has many happy users. The Contrail is still my go-to solo.

If you've got access to a sewing machine and have the time you can make your own "Bilgy" tarptent. I made one , 2 lbs and it sleeps two comfortably. I have not had a chance to try it in the SW. If you're interested go to http://www.questoutfitters.com.

Interesting website, reminds me of the 70's and Frostline Kits. Tarp looks pretty functional.

I have worked many years in sewing businesses, including working for the Pack Shack making packs and duffel bags, etc. Therefore, I don't sew! ;)

If I never touch a sewing machine again, I won't cry. If I am desperate, it is a job skill I possess. I would rather pay 3 times the amount, (or go without) if it means I don't have to sew it!

@pencak
You're welcome. It did take me about 2 weekends and a couple of weeks of sewing every night to do it, but it's a great ultra light tent and roomy. The silnylon is extremely slippery and requires some patience to work with.
