Entertaining in May
I have some guests coming out in mid May who have asked me to take them on a weekend hike adventure. One idea is to do a few descents into West Clear Creek (white box, hanging gardens, point trail, etc). Another is to make our way up to the Utah/AZ border for some hoodoos, slot canyons and possibly score some on-site Coyote Buttes permits. Grand Canyon also a possibility...depends on the heat. Any other weekend favorites/suggestions for mid May hikes. My guests are coming from Michigan, they are in their early 40's, fit and ready for some adventurous hiking that might include floating, swimming, boulder hopping, and light canyoneering. I'm not planning on backpacking in all our gear, but rather hiking for a day, returning to base camp for the evening and then heading out on another day hike.
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

Utah: Kane Gulch to Junction with Grand Gulch, or any other Grand Gluch dayhike. Camp out on Muley Point/Cedar Point with views of Valley of the Gods, Goosenecks of the San Juan, and Monument Valley.

I prefer WCC when its a little warmer out, I guess it depends how hot it is by then, sometimes Sedona is nice in May, i.e. West Fork

When I did Soap Creek Canyon, I thought that was pretty intense. but I did in july like an idiot. I'm more of a hiker, but the canyoneering was pretty fun, even with the heat.

Salome Jug is a good May hike, I would think there will be plenty of water through May this year.

I've considered Salome Jug...That would cover one day...then drive somewhere else for hike day 2. I need to study up on Soap Creek and Grand Gulch.

After checking out the triplogs and photosets on Soap, I would say this is a strong possibility. Definitely have to pack a frisbee and smashball paddles for fun at the beach.
