Tonto Camping in April

Post by Tough_Boots »

Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere in Tonto to camp in a couple weeks. I have a friend coming into town and I wanted to take him camping somewhere that isn't going to be hellish hot since its already warming up. I could just go up north but I want him to get a little taste of the desert. How are the temps this time of year at Reavis Ranch? I've only hiked from that TH once down to the falls. Does anyone have any other ideas?

thanks!

We did Reavis Falls today, and it was a little warm. The early morning was nice, but I'm guessing that it was 85 and very exposed on the way back after noon.

right on... my plan was to pack in somewhere atleast a few miles (I'm not really into car camping). I'd love to hit up Reavis Falls again but my buddy's not an avid hiker and I don't want to throw him into that. I've never been all the way out to Reavis Ranch and I was figuring that was a pretty reasonable overnight trip-- long but not a climb like coming back from the falls.

There are several routes into Reavis - some are easier than others. Let me open my book here...
Oak Flat from the Miles TH is stupid easy following Pinto Trail (which follows Pinto Creek) into a wide meadow where a few streams and numerous trails converge.

Also, Angel Basin from Rogers Trough TH is an easy hike to the popular campsite. Bring bug-stuff, though; the bats won't get all the skeeters.

There are also some good trails and camping in the Cave Creek/Seven Springs area, assuming you want to swim. It's getting a bit hot to sit about camp with or without shade.

Good luck,
