Arizona Backpacking Club...

Post by writelots »

is celebrating it's 2nd Birthday/Anniversary May 21-23 up at Showers Point on Mt. Lemmon. If you're interested in meeting some of the folks from that club, getting to know a few others better, or just hanging out with some awesome hikers, consider joining us. We will likely have a few day hikes in the surrounding hills (of varying difficulty) as well as other fun activities planned - so come on out, we'll have a great time!

Wendy, I'll save the date and commit when it gets closer. I assume it's car camping?

Yup, this is car camping at it's finest... If you can't make it up for the whole trip, feel free to just come by for one of the day hikes, too. We'll be posting a more detailed schedule of activities as the event gets closer.

And Jeff, :sl:

Mine'll be there, so you'd better be serious! : rambo :

Definitely family friendly - several people have mentioned bringing their significant others and/or children... I'm actually trying to recruit some help planning an activity or two aimed at younger folks. I'm usually at quite a loss as to what to do with them :lol:

@writelots
You could have a scavenger hunt or you could create a flora and fauna Bingo. I have tons of fun ideas for kids because I taught science to freshman in high school for a year. I would be happy to help plan a kid friendly activity :) Just let me know the age range and we can get something going.

@freespirit
I'm not sure on age range, to be honest. Most people have said "may bring kids" and that sort of thing, and since I don't really know them, kids could be 18yr olds or 18 month olds...

I'll try to get a better idea, but maybe we can come up with a few different activities that would cover us for the weekend...

@azbackpackr
Know anyone else in the WM area who wants to join a backpacking group? Maybe recruit a carpool buddy? I'll put a shout out on craigslist maybe. I've gotten good response from that venue here in Tucson...

To All
Now that my other trips are out of the way, I'm going on this one all out! Because we have a limit on the number of folks camping up at Shower's Point, I'll need a solid commitment if you want to come by May 14. That way I will know if I need to start putting folks on a wait list or some such. Please let me know, too, if you're bringing partners, friends, children or pets. That way I can get a pretty accurate count!
