Popup camping

Post by Nighthiker »

Bought a new popup camper, last year. Quicksilver by LivinliteRV. I still backpack, mtn. bike camp and use my military jeep trailer for large tent camping. Been able to camp monthly, usually trip is at least 4 days but a couple have lasted 10 days. Some of my popup camping trips I have included an overnighter backpack or mtn. bike camp out. My work schedule allows me to camp during the week. Last week heading home met up with some coworkers at the Saguaro Lake turnoff heading home from a camping trip just as other coworkers were heading out on their camping trip. Brother (Casita camping trailer) just came back from a four day trip.

Sounds fun. The main thing is, does it have a propane heater?

Our family had one for 17 years and it got a lot of use. We had all the necessary supplies inside so when it was time to go all we had to do was pack cloths and food... open the little door and shove it in. Ours was a 10 foot box Starcraft.

Speaking about campers, has anyone seen this video? I think it is really cool, would be great to find one for my jeep.

Here's my popup camping trailer. It'll go anywhere my 4x4 Tacoma will go.

That's very clever and fun-looking, but what about high winds?

That's fascinating setup, but the tent itself is somewhat less aerodynamic than a lot of backpacking tents. One dark and stormy night in CO, my little Tarptent Contrail was parked next to an old traditional dome tent. By morning, I had to re-plant a few stakes, but the fly had been torn off the dome tent.

For back country tent camping accessed by 4x4, I have a M416A1 trailer. The company that makes my popup: http://www.livinliterv.com makes a model availabe at Jeep dealers and can be seen at http://www.mopar.com. Pretty cool looking rig you have.

Is your tacoma stock or did you have it lifted? Looks like a cool popup though I'd prefer having no ladder

Hmm, are you sure? I would think no ladder=no girlfriend! ;) I myself could not easily get in and out of that a couple times a night with no ladder, and I'm pretty spry.

The campers offered by Mopar come in two models 32" tires with 12" clearance and 35" tires with 15" clearance. This model also comes with a 360 degree pintle hitch (something I wish my military jeep trailer came with). Same bolt pattern as the jeep so you can use the spare from your jeep. Last year camping along the Mogollon Rim I observed about a 1/2 dozen jeeps and small trucks towing the M416 trailer and one of them was towing a trailer similar to yours but the trailer was red. My next camping trip I may use my military jeep trailer.

Popups are nice... I just scored two of them (abandoned up in the National Forest and tagged for disposal by the Forest Service... been up there for nine months). One is in great shape... sleeps 7. Will be nice to have for the extra space on those rainy days up there. The other I plan to strip down and use the frame to build a tear drop trailer, something to enjoy on short trips. My standard trailer is a tiny Acorn... very compact yet accommodates everything nicely. I guess I'll need to sell off one... getting overkill for just myself.

Saw a teardrop trailer yesterday, I think it was a "Tagalong." Cute!

I saw a motorcycle pulling one of those in Oregon. It seems like they used to be more common.
